Although we at The Map Shop are very impressed by and recommend the ASUS PDA and CoPilot combination (click HERE) we recognise that some people just want an in-vehicle navigator. Unless you need the versatility of a PDA then the Garmin range of navigators are for you.

Nuvi 260W & Nuvi 760 The new Nuvi widescreen models (109 mm touchscreens) incorporate text-to-speech, pre-installed City Navigator Whereis map data, SD card slot for additional data and more. Extra software tools from Garmin's Built-in Travel Kit, allow the user to view jpg images, run a world clock with time zones, currency & measurement conversion utilities, a calculator etc. The Nuvi 760 also allows the user to create track logs and pre-plan multiple destinations. Improved Text to Speech Text-to-speech lets the navigator give specific instructions. Previous navigators with speech said such things as "Turn left in 100 metres". These Nuvi navigators will tell you to "Turn left into Chapel Street in 100 metres". This avoids the confusion sometimes created when driving around close-knit suburban streets. The Nuvi 760 also has the ability to link to your car radio via an FM transmitter so you can listen to the navigation instructions through your in-car sound system. It can also play MP3 files and audio books. Additional memory means additional maps. The SD-Card slot allows the navigator to make use of additional data such as the 1:250 000 scale map data for the whole of Australia. This incorporates 4WD track data simply not available in City Navigator or other street navigation databases. Previously the only way to access this information was via software and devices that used raster information (- such as laptops or PDAs running OziExplorer.)
